Nick graduated from Cardiff Dental Hospital in 1992 and obtained his postgraduate qualifications from the Royal London Dental Hospital and the Royal College of Surgeons. He is on the GDC specialist list for orthodontics.

Following qualification as a specialist orthodontist he worked as a Consultant for the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, then as an NHS Consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, before settling in Specialist Practice. He has been closely involved in teaching and training new orthodontists and therapists and keeps up to date on the latest techniques by attending regular meetings and courses.

He also lectures at clinical meetings regionally and nationally and is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, the European Orthodontic Society, and the World federation of Orthodontists.

Nick has a clinical interest in adult orthodontics, Invisalign and low visibility cosmetic orthodontics.

Katy is a GDC registered Specialist Orthodontist who prides herself on the quality of her work and is motivated by creating beautiful smiles for her patients. Katy is experienced in treating both children and adults with a range of Orthodontic appliances including discreet and aesthetic options such as Invisalign and clear fixed braces.

Katy has undergone extensive training in Dentistry and Orthodontics in order to qualify as an Orthodontic Specialist:

* Honours degree in Dentistry from University of Bristol in 2012

* Master of Science in Orthodontics with Distinction from King’s College London

* Qualified as a Specialist in Orthodontics, and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh

* Certified Invisalign Practitioner Katy graduated as a Dentist with an Honours degree from The University of Bristol. She went on to expand her skill set by working for a number of years in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Children’s Dentistry.

In these roles she worked with highly skilled teams in managing a multitude of complex issues of the head, neck and jaws, as well as gaining expertise in treating younger patients and those with dental anxieties.

Katy went on to complete the three-year Orthodontic postgraduate training at King’s College London where she achieved a Distinction for her Master of Science in Orthodontics and was awarded the prestigious Philip Walter prize for her Orthodontic research.

Katy has worked within Specialist Orthodontic practices in London before moving to Winchester with her family. She has a caring and compassionate manner which helps put patients at ease from the outset, and looks forward to discussing with you how she can assist in enhancing your smile.

Outside of work Katy enjoys netball, running and spending time with her family.

Nerina qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1982. After graduating, she worked in the salaried dental service in London as a Dental Officer, providing care for children, patients with special needs, and individuals with mental health conditions.

She went on to gain further clinical experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery through Senior House Officer posts in North Wales and Southampton. In 1990, Nerina joined the Orthodontic Department at Southampton General Hospital, where she worked as a Staff Grade clinician for thirty years.

Since 1990, she has also provided orthodontic care in North Baddesley across both NHS and private settings. In 2009, Nerina established Hendrickse Dental Health, developing a trusted and well supported practice within the local community.

In October 2025, the practice became part of PortmanDentex. Nerina continues to support the team and remains closely involved in the care of patients.

Bala qualified as a dentist in 2002. He completed a Master’s degree in Orthodontics in 2007 and has continued to broaden his clinical experience through additional training in a range of hospital settings. During this time, he gained experience in oral surgery and paediatric dentistry while working at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and within hospitals in South London.

He provides orthodontic care for patients of all ages and is committed to offering a professional, calm and friendly approach that helps individuals feel comfortable and supported throughout their treatment.

Jenna, as she is known by both patients and the team, has worked in dentistry since 2001 and joined the Hendrickse team in 2017. She completed her Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy (RCS) at the Leeds Dental Institute in 2023.

As an Orthodontic Therapist, Jenna works under the prescription and guidance of a Specialist Orthodontist or Dentist, carrying out a range of delegated clinical procedures. Her role includes taking impressions, providing oral health education, applying fluoride varnish, and taking radiographs where appropriately trained and authorised. She enjoys supporting patients throughout their orthodontic care and helping them feel comfortable and informed at each stage of treatment.

Angela Harrison

PRACTICE MANAGER

Angela trained as a dental nurse in 2009 and has gained experience working in both general dental practice and oral surgery at the local hospital. She joined the team at Hendrickse Dental Health in 2017, where she also completed her Dental Radiography certificate.

Angela became Practice Manager in 2019 and plays a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. Despite her managerial role, she is still happy to support the team wherever needed and can often be found helping on reception or assisting in surgery.

PRACTICE MANAGER

Sally joined Abbey Orthodontics in 2016 where she was new to the world of orthodontics following an 18 year career in insurance. Since then, she has become an experienced Practice Manager in all aspects of the smooth operations and compliance of the practice and is enjoying learning all of the different aspects of orthodontics.

Outside of the practice, Sally is kept busy with her two children and menagerie of pets

Nicola recently celebrated her 50th year in dentistry, she qualified as a dental nurse in 1976 and worked for the school dental service with her father for 4 years. After marrying she left dentistry to have a family, but returned to general dentistry in 1991. In 1998 she became an orthodontic nurse at Abbey Orthodontics.

Nicola has two grown-up daughters, four grandchildren and is a staunch Saints supporter.

ORTHODONTIC NURSE

Miriam qualified as a dental nurse in 1985. She took a break from dentistry while her family was small. On returning to orthodontics she trained to be our oral health educator and dental radiography. She is here to support patients with their oral health throughout their time with us, providing advice and practical help. Miriam is also trained to take dental impressions.

Miriam lives locally with her husband and four children. Miriam enjoys walking her dog, swimming and keeping fit.

Jessica Blackman

Dental nurse

Jess qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2017 and joined Hendrickse Dental Health in 2024. She has completed her radiography training and supports the dentists during a range of orthodontic treatments, as well as running her own nurse-led clinics.

In addition to her role at the practice, Jess also works as an agency dental nurse in general practice, giving her a broad range of experience across different areas of dentistry.
